Our department specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases, especially in adult patients.
Jan Lestak, M.D., PhD.
After graduaiting from the Military Medical Academy in Hradec Králové in 1980, he started his residency at the eye department of the Central Military Hospital in Prague.
He graduated from level I postgraduate specialty training in opthalmology in 1985 and from level II postgraduate specialty training in ophthalmology in 1992. He defended his PhD thesis entitled „ A Contribution to the Examination Techniques of Electrical Changes in the Retina“ in 1991. Until 1995, he was at the position of the deputy head of the eye department of the Central Military Hospital in Prague.
On 1. March 1995, he founded a new private eye department at the polyclinics in Prague, and since then he has managed and enlarged this department as head physician. Thanks to his managerial abilities, this facility introduced certain novel treatment procedures into clinical practice, as the first to do so in the Czech Repblic. He gives lectures for physicians in postgraduate training in the Central Military Hospital and the Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education in Prague, and various meetings both in the Czech Republic and abroad. He is researcher in 3 governmental research projects and 1 grant project of Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic.
During his scientific and research activities, he published 90 scientific articles and has given 144 lectures.
He is concern on the problematic of visually evoked responses, neuro-opthalmology and glaucoma..
He is a member of Commision of the Czech Ophthalmology Society, Czech Vitreoretinal Society, Czech Glaucoma Society and the Association of Private Ophthalmologists of the Czech Republic.
He is the chairman of the Commision for Ophthalmology of the Czech Medical Chamber.
He is vicechairman of the Committee for Acreditation of Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic and member of test committee of the Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education.
