Petr Novak, M.D.

Dr. Novák is the Centre’s major surgeon, the company’s expert guarantor, and a medical manager.

After completing his studies at the Faculty of General Medicine, Charles University in Prague, Dr. Petr Novák started his career at the Eye Clinic of the Faculty Hospital Královské Vinohrady (FNKV), Prague 10. He obtained his first certification in the field of ophthalmology in 1991, and the second certification in 1996.

He worked first at the Eye Clinic of the FNKV as a house officer. He later became a head of the inpatient ward, the operating theatre, and the local Refractive Centre. Since 1996, he has been a chief physician of the Clinic. He is a co-founder of the Refractive Centre Prague, Ltd. (Refrakční Centrum Praha s.r.o.). He is currently involved in the development of the leading Centre for Eye Microsurgery in the hospital Nemocnice Na Homolce in Prague.

Dr. Novák focuses particularly on surgery of the eye’s anterior segment, and specializes in corneal conditions (he has performed more than 1,000 transplantations), cataract surgery (over 13,500 operations), and refractive surgery. He is one of the most experienced experts in the field of laser refractive methods (particularly in the LASIK method) in the Czech Republic. Since 1995, he has conducted more than 5,000 LASIK operations.

Dr. Petr Novák has been awarded fellowships at leading clinics abroad, for example in Mannheim and Boston. He has participated in renowned congresses in the USA, Germany, Belgium, and Portugal where he gave lectures about laser refractive methods.

Dr. Novák is a member of the Committee of the Czech Society of Refractive and Cataract Surgery (Česká společnost refrakční a kataraktové chirurgie) and of the Czech Ophthalmic Society (Česká optalmologická společnost). He was appointed an International Council Representative for the Czech Republic in the International Society of Refractive Surgery, he is a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
