Our department specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases, especially in adult patients.
Clinic profile
History
The eye department was established by Dr. Ján Lešták, CSc. on 1 March 1995 in the newly opened "Lípa Centrum" Polyclinic. Since the first months of its existence, the eye department has provided a large spectrum of high-quality services.
Since November 2001, the Clinic has been located in its own up-to-date premises in the Multifunctional Building with an Eye Clinic in Prague - Nové Butovice. The department ranks among the best ophthalmologic facilities in the Czech Republic thanks to its team of specialists and state-of-the-art equipment. The department has reached excellence in the comprehensiveness of its services. Currently, it is the only eye surgery facility in the Czech Republic that performs intraocular operations on both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye on an outpatient basis.
Approximately 100 to 160 people come for an eye examination every day, of which 25-30% become new patients.
Our external consultation services are used even by the eye departments of teaching hospitals. Patients from all over the Czech Republic and also from abroad come to our Clinic for operations (mostly for cataract surgery). A very important moment for the facility was when it obtained the ISO 9001 quality certificate in 2005.
Specialization
Our department specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases, especially in adult patients. Thanks to our state-of-the-art technologies and skilled personnel, we are able to perform early diagnostics of glaucoma, retinal disorders and neurogenic disorders using the most advanced procedures. We have excellent results in microsurgical procedures on both the anterior and posterior eye segments, including surgery on conjunctiva, cornea, all types of glaucoma and cataracts - using the most advanced implant materials and the state-of-the-art device Infiniti (USA) - and on the vitreous, and retina.
All surgical procedures are performed on an outpatient basis. Our department cooperates with all clinics and facilities in the Czech Republic and abroad. We are involved in clinical trials of new medicinal products as part of the international project organized by the firms Servier and Pfizer, and in clinical trials of new implants, instruments and devices for ophthalmology organized by the Ministry of Health. We cooperate with the firm Alcon in teaching microsurgery and diagnostics and treatment of eye diseases, and with the firm CMI in organizing training courses in perimetry. Our scientific and research activities are focused on the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (with a grant from IGA MZd, a Grant Agency of the Czech Ministry of Health), and on issues of early diagnostics for glaucoma. In the year 2002, our facility was accredited by the Czech Medical Chamber for organizing specialty postgraduate training courses for ophthalmologists. A total of 8 to 10 courses are held every year.
