Our department specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases, especially in adult patients.
Asc. Prof. Sarka Pitrova, M.D., PhD.
After graduating from the Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague in 1972, she worked at the eye department of the General Teaching Hospital in Prague until 1997. In October 1997, she started working at the Private Eye Department of Dr. Lešták. She graduated from level I and level II postgraduate specialty training in ophthalmology in 1979 and 1983, respectively. She defended her PhD thesis entitled "Iris Microsurgery" in 1982 in a prestigious foreign facility. In 1991 she was named associate professor of ophthalmology based on the thesis "Biocompatibility of Retropupillary Intraocular Lenses". Since 1979 she has been largely engaged in eye microsurgery. She has specialized in surgery of the anterior segment (cataract, glaucoma, corneal transplants, reconstructive posttraumatic surgery, and plastic surgery). She completed many resident training courses in foreign hospitals during her research fellowships in Germany and the USA. She is involved in teaching glaucoma and cataract microsurgery as part of postgraduate medical education both in the Czech Republic and abroad. She has been invited to operations within the "live surgery" projects in the Czech Republic's facilities and abroad. She gives lectures in scientific meetings in the Czech Republic and abroad and she has repeatedly published the results of her work. She is a co-author of two scientific books. She cooperates on a long-term basis with the team of Prof. Wichterle from ÚMCH AV (Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Academy of Sciences) in the research and development of new implants. She was a researcher in 3 governmental projects and 1 grant project of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. She is the President of the Czech Ophthalmological Society, a member of the committee of the Czech Glaucoma Society, the Czech Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and vice-chairwoman of the Association of Private Ophthalmologists of the Czech Republic. She is a foreign member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
