The surgical department is an essential part of Nemocnice sv. Zdislavy, a.s. Mostiště. Each of the branches of medical care in the hospital complements the others, ensuring that the care we provide is comprehensive. In addition to the other bed departments - internal medicine, orthopedics and follow-up care – our hospital’s surgical department provides a relatively wide range of surgical operations. The basic group comprises general surgical operations. In layman's terms we could say that most frequently we provide surgical therapy, in other words we operate on illnesses of the gall bladder, various types of hernias, appendicitis, tumours or other of the stomach and intestine. All sudden emergency conditions requiring immediate surgery, i.e. bleeding, blood poisoning or infection, injuries. Over the last 15 years there have been great advances in miniinvasive techniques. These are operations using a camera, light source and other special instruments. The advantages for the patient is that the operational wound is smaller, there is minimum damage to the walls of the abdomen, generally less pain, as well as a host of other arguments. After years of experience, however, we know that will continue to come up against diagnoses where the “big cut” simply cannot be avoided.

Orthopedic department

The orthopedic department with follow-up rehabilitation care has a total of 28 beds, plus an additional 3 intensive care beds as part of the Intensive and Resuscitative Care Unit.

The bed section of the department is located in the new hospital premises. Patients are accommodated in modern, furnished, mostly twin-bedded rooms with separate toilet facilities; some rooms have a TV.

In rooms which do not have a TV set, it is possible to arrange with the ward sister to bring a personal portable set. With above-standard services meals can be ordered individually from our catering facility.

Patients are cared for in the department by a team of qualified doctors, nurses and physiotherapists.Our patients are operated on in a modern, super-aseptic air-conditioned operating theatre, and there is a separate theatre available for septic orthopedics.The operations we carry out principally involve endoprotheses of the hip and knee joint; over the last few years we have been performing 400 of these operations a year.

Yet we should not overlook our arthroscopic operations, particularly those on the knee and shoulder, and recently we have performed a great many frontal cross-ligament replacement operations or stabilisation of the shoulder joint for recurrent luxation.

An example of another area where we have put the latest findings and therapeutic procedures into practice is surgery on the foot, mostly to remedy static deformities (hallux valgus, flat foot, finger deformities).

We make us of a modern “NEW DEAL” instrumentarium and surgical implants for foot surgery.
