I would like to thank warmly to the whole team of the Refractive Centre for my new eyes. Until May 2005, I had two problems – I was nearsighted (-7 dioptres) and did not have a good sense of direction when driving my car. Both problems are now solved. I thought about a laser eye surgery for many years. In fact, I was not afraid of the operation. The thing that held me back was the financial aspect of the surgery (I mean the price for the operation in Germany).

I have been wearing glasses since I was 11. I no longer need to do what anyone who has to wear glasses (particularly in childhood) has to. I used to wear contact lenses for more than 20 years but did not always like it. I did not have only negative experience with contact lenses but I was annoyed that I had to put them in and take them out and always take spare contact lenses with me; sometimes I lost them, or suffered from lachrymation, etc.

In January 2005, I had severe conjunctivitis due to which I had to stop wearing contact lenses. It was worth it!

I started to collect information about eye laser surgeries. Just by accident, I learnt about the RCP in Prague from my colleague from work who was treated there. My first telephone contact with Dr. Klečka convinced me that I was at the right place. Everything was explained to me, I was advised of the whole procedure, and all my questions were sufficiently and patiently answered.

No one promised me "a miracle" because, as I said, I had -7 dioptres. But after the surgery I felt as if it was a miracle. Today, I see like a hawk. Should I exaggerate I would say I can even see around corners!

My thanks go to Dr. Klečka for the pre- and postoperative examinations, Dr. Novák for the performance of the operation, and the nurses for their professional and very kind care. Now you may ask how my second problem was solved? It is simple; I have a navigation system. So all in all:

laser operation on both eyes in Prague

+ 10-day stay in Prague

+ navigation system for my car

= laser surgery on one eye in Germany

However, there is one disadvantage of laser surgery. I am an enthusiastic cook and since I do not wear contact lenses any more, I cry when chopping onions. I wish the same to those who will decide on laser operation in the Refractive Centre, good luck and have a nice time in Prague.
